Signs You May Need This
Your temperature gauge is reading higher than normal or the overheat warning light is on
You see coolant (green, pink, or orange fluid) pooling under your car
Your A/C is blowing warm air or the heat is weak even when the engine is warmed up
You notice a sweet smell inside the cabin, which can indicate a heater core leak
What to Expect
Most cooling repairs completed same-day
Coolant flushes and thermostat replacements are typically completed in a few hours. Water pump and radiator replacements usually take a full day. Heater core replacement is more labor-intensive and may take one to two days depending on the vehicle. A/C recharges are quick; compressor replacements take most of a day.
We always diagnose the root cause of overheating or cooling issues before recommending parts replacement. Call us for a quote specific to your vehicle. Our transparent pricing and family-owned approach mean more affordable service with a personal touch.
German Car Expertise
BMW cooling systems are a well-known failure point. The plastic expansion tanks, water pump impellers, and thermostat housings on many BMW models are prone to cracking with age and heat cycles. Proactive replacement of these components is one of the best investments a BMW owner can make, and we see these jobs regularly.
Mercedes, Audi, and VW all use manufacturer-specific coolant formulations that should be maintained properly. Mike has been servicing German cooling systems since 1980 and knows the failure patterns for each make and model. We also welcome all other foreign makes and models.
Classic Car A/C Service
A/C recharge and R12 to R134a conversion
Many classic Mercedes-Benz, BMW, and other European vehicles from the 1970s through early 1990s were originally equipped with R12 refrigerant, which is no longer manufactured and increasingly difficult to source. We offer complete R12 to R134a conversion, which includes replacing the receiver-drier, installing new O-rings and fittings, flushing the system, and recharging with the modern refrigerant.
For vehicles that still have a functioning R12 system, we can perform a standard recharge as well. Either way, we start with a full leak test and system inspection — recharging a leaky system wastes refrigerant and your money.
With close to seventy years of hands-on experience, Mike has worked on A/C systems across every generation of German vehicles — from W123 and R107 Mercedes to E30 BMWs and air-cooled VWs. Call us to discuss what your specific vehicle needs.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I know if my car needs an A/C recharge or a repair?
If your A/C blows warm air, it could be low refrigerant, a leak, a failing compressor, or an electrical issue. We start with a full system inspection and leak test before recommending a recharge or repair — that way you only pay for what actually fixes the problem.
Should I convert my classic car from R12 to R134a?
For most classic vehicles, converting to R134a is the practical choice. R12 is no longer manufactured, making it expensive and hard to source. R134a is widely available and performs well in most systems with proper conversion. We can advise whether conversion or an R12 recharge makes more sense for your specific vehicle.
How long does an A/C recharge take?
A straightforward A/C recharge typically takes about an hour, including the leak test. An R12 to R134a conversion is more involved — expect a half day to a full day depending on the vehicle, since it includes replacing seals, the receiver-drier, and flushing the system.
Can you work on A/C systems in older Mercedes like the 450SL or W123?
Absolutely. Mike has been servicing these vehicles since they were new. We regularly work on R107 SLs, W123 sedans and wagons, W126 S-Class, and other classic Mercedes models. We carry the correct fittings and have the experience to handle vintage A/C systems properly.
Why is my A/C blowing cold then warm intermittently?
Intermittent cooling often points to a system that is low on refrigerant, a failing compressor clutch, or a clogged expansion valve. Electrical issues like a faulty pressure switch can also cause the compressor to cycle on and off. Bring it in and we will pinpoint the cause.
